Let us experience decency this evening, – not fasces (torches) and the trampling of boots!
The night between November 9 and 10, 1938, Kristallnacht, also called the November Pogroms, marked the result of many years of anti-Jewish agitation and the beginning of the Holocaust, – the systematic extermination of more than six million Jews, including 1.5 million children. 1,406 synagogues were destroyed and burned down, 7,000 Jewish businesses and homes were destroyed, 400 Jews were killed, thousands were injured, about 30,000 Jews were arrested, and 20,000 were sent to concentration camps. Of the latter, almost none survived.
Sunday, November 9, 2025, marks 87 years since Kristallnacht took place. On this day, it has been an annual tradition all over the world to hold a memorial commemoration of the genocide of the Jews. At the same time, the day has been central to the efforts to maintain society’s fight against anti-Semitism as an irrational and pathological hatred directed exclusively at Jews.
The annual commemoration of Kristallnacht changed character in the 2000s when the later fraud-convicted organization SOS-Rasisme was allowed to organize it. It would take a few years before the fraud convicts were forgotten and the Anti-Racist Center took over this political role. Just as extremists have hijacked the memorial day of the October massacre to celebrate the murder of innocent Jews, they have also hijacked the memorial day of Kristallnacht to promote the terrorists’ agenda. It does not serve their cause to be reminded of the over 6 million murdered Jews.
With this purpose, they march with their torches on an important day that in fact has nothing to do with Israel’s politics, nor with the Hamas terrorism they support. They know perfectly well that they can fill our streets with torches and noise any day of the year, but cynically and deliberately they abuse the very memorial day of Kristallnacht, together with pro-Palestinian forces.
This audacity only shows how comfortable the anti-Semites and Islamists in our country have become. That Jews feel excluded from these commemorations does not make the slightest impression on them, and hardly on our Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre or the mayor of Oslo, Anne Lindboe, who legitimize the extremist organizations behind the torchlight procession with LO in the driver’s seat, by participating in their so-called Kristallnacht commemoration which is misused for anti-Zionist propaganda, instead of standing in the synagogue in silence with the Jews.
What will it take for our prime minister to understand that the commemoration of Kristallnacht is a matter for Jews, friends of Jews, and Jewish traditions of remembrance? We urge him to change his mind and go to the synagogue tonight!
It was commendable of the Christian Democratic Party’s Anne Kristin Bruns to refrain from the commemoration in Stavanger planned by an unknown woman, Nina Narvestad, leader of the so-called Anti-Racist Front. Narvestad demanded that Bruns NOT mention Israel in her appeal: «I was afraid she would make a statement of support for Israel, which is a country that pursues a racist policy against the Palestinians» says Narvestad to Stavanger Aftenblad.
Also, Christian Democratic Party leader Dag Inge Ulstein is among the few who react to the fact that the Jews’ memorial day is being hijacked by Gaza activists. He writes the following on his Facebook page:
It is simply outrageous that the Anti-Racist Center, along with radical Palestine activists and others, is trying to turn the Holocaust commemoration on November 9 into an arena for left-wing activism. This day is for remembering the atrocities that happened on the night of November 9 to 10, 1938, which was the start of the dramatic escalation of the systematic persecution of Jews in Germany. Not for promoting political campaigns. It is sad to hear how the Mosaic Community experiences the cooperation with the Anti-Racist Center, and how they in practice contribute to fueling anti-Semitism in Norway. I look forward to visiting the synagogue and commemorating Kristallnacht together with the Mosaic Community. I hope the Prime Minister does the same.
Out of respect for the Jews who were victims of genocide and the Jews who are now threatened by a new genocide, we ask everyone to think carefully about what they support and participate in on the occasion of Kristallnacht. Remember that demonstrations with torches are only for fascists, not Jews. We therefore urge everyone to boycott commemorations planned by left-wing radicals and their Islamist friends, who have a clear goal of misusing the day not only to support terror against Israel, but just as much to downplay the West’s Holocaust crimes against the Jews and modern anti-Semitism.
Let us rather stand for a moment in silence where we live and turn our thoughts to the few Jews who are left in Norway, gathered in two small remaining synagogues. May we once again experience decency this evening – not the fascist march in the streets, not flickering torches that threaten to obliterate Jewish traditions of remembrance, not someone who tramples on doubt and thought. Let there be room for eyes that meet, words that carry weight, silence that does not frighten, but allows us to listen. May the evening carry dignity – not omens of further violence.
Let us once again experience decency this evening, – not fasces (torches) and the trampling of boots!
